I’m not gonna start the interview with the traditional please-tell-us-about-the-history-of-the-band question, but rather with a quotation of yours that you’re gonna give comments about: “What they [trend followers] don't know is that before the fukking death of Euronymous, there was already Deiphago”... Hail Satan! That statement was directed to the Philippine black metal bands who don’t even know the history of Deiphago ! II) You guys have been desecrating our heads since 1989 now and your first album was released 18 years after… Why the fuck did you wait such a long time ? Is the DEIPHAGO biography so chaotic ? I mean, you may have experienced on-hold and stand-by times, or some periods about lack of motivation, huh ? As what we’ve said in a 1995 interview : “We are not here to satisfy your needs. We do what we want and never play for your sake.”III) You are all hailing from the Philippines but from what I’ve read, you now all live in Costa Rica, right ? Why did you choose to move away from your fatherland? And from a musical aspect, what are the differences between both scenes ? I heard you guy saying that no one else but you can play BM in your fucking country, so I want to know more… It just happened, nothing was planned. We could be in any other country right now. Satan = Black Metal! We said that no one else can play BM in our land because the losers in our country are not into any form of Satanism at all! They just play black metal because they think it is cool and if we were there right now, we would be beating the shit out of these posers! The only active bands that I support right now are Kratornas and Korihor/Maniak! The same goes for Costa Rica. The slaughter of the posers and melodic black metal has just begun in this country! I don’t support any black metal band here in Costa Rica except for Heretical Warlust. The rest of them are just fucking posers and trendies who just want to play black metal for the sake of playing it or for getting fucking groupies! How pathetic is that? Fuck off to the Costa Rican web-fanzine C.T.T.I.H. and fuck off to the Burzum ball-lickers Morbid Funer-ass. Don’t be fooled by this poser band, last thing I heard is now they are covering Beherit! Pathetic posers! Jumping from Burzum to Beherit just proves how desperate these losers are! IV) Let’s talk about Satanik Eon now. The new album is absolutely amazing ; I have experienced a real storm of bestial and filthy Black / Death fucking violence, as if SARCOPHAGO and BLASPHEMY were sodomizing each other in a way. I also got impressed by your hateful vocals; are you guy possessed ? What are the visions you have when you puke out your vocals? It sounds inhuman, all my congratulations… We are possessed by Satan! Visions are only of chaos and total annihilation! V) The song writing on this album is as powerful as an atomic bomb. How do you build your songs ? Do you rehearse and get the ideas on the place ? Or are riffs prepared by each member separately ? In any way, the result is spontaneous and it truly reflects the violence of your music. All the chaos is done by Sidapa. I come in only to arrange the structure. The drums go next then the vokills ! VI) We know about your musical influences when we listen to Satanik Eon, but what about non-musical shit ? One day you said “Non-musical influence would be obsession with cruelty”… Can you develop ? It can only develop to more cruelty ! VII) What about your state of possession on stage? Please describe how a DEIPHAGO gig looks like. Is the audience from the Philippines (and now Costa Rica) as crazy as in most Southern countries ? Fucking more hatred than on the record! All the concerts finishes with mass slaughter of the senses! We have yet to see which country is craziest ! VIII) The Philippines are famous for their rip-off labels and traders from Davao City. I’m sorry for this cliché-typical question, you must have heard it a thousand times, but what the hell is going on down there ? Why such a reputation ? Can you give names to avoid bad surprises? Please no fucking waffle… By now, I am getting tired of this question. Philippines is so big that I haven’t even been to Davao City. I have to take a fucking plane just to get there. So, the obvious answer to this is I don’t fucking know. It is the same as any other fucked up country. The only reason someone would rip-off somebody is because they don’t have money. Now, I think the ones to blame here are the fucking stupid idiots who got ripped-off! Think about it, if you got ripped-off, then who do you think is to blame? Who the fuck would trade with someone from Davao city that you haven’t even heard the name of the band? Use the internet to see if the band exists. If it does then it would be better to get it directly from the band or from your local distributor. Who would fucking trade with someone who claims to have a distro? If you want to trade then trade with the labels direct and not with some obscure distro in a fucking country that you don’t even have any clue about. Shit, I got people asking me for stuff, that I just don’t fucking bother replying to them. If you want a copy of our album, support us and buy it, fucking poor bastards! If you want a trade then let me know what you have for trade if I don’t like it then fuck off! The real rip-off that is killing the bands are the fucking blogs and forums that posts albums of all the bands! Yeah, I know it is fucking sharing, but share it with your close allies and not with the whole world ! IX) You used to deal with traditional instruments from the Philippines on the Pagan Sessions demo if I’m not wrong, but it was never released. How can you explain this choice ? Did you feel it was not corresponding to DEIPHAGO’s essence ? They were indigenous instruments and was used very minimal in one song – ‘Bathala’ of demo 97. It was the time that we chose to put the band in hiatus instead of continuing where it is about to go. X) Still about your demos, is there a chance to get them re-released ? I can easily imagine your answer, but I have nothing to lose in asking the question, eh eh… Demo 91 will be re-released in 7” format in a German label soon and as for demo 1993, since the master tape was lost, there are plans to re-record it to as close as possible to the original for a 7” release also. XI) In most DEIPHAGO interviews I have read, you seem to spit on the “Norse Forest Black Metal” from Norway. The “Norse Forest” moniker sounds ironical of course, how can you explain your disgust towards the Scandinavian scene ? It gave way to the trend of what has become of black metal! Black metal has become so fucking overpopulated with kids that don’t even know what black metal is about! All it has spawned are meaningless black metal bands who only play for the music and not for the ideals! There are lots of them all around the world and there is no way for a normal follower to know which band is true or not! For example, there is a local band here called Fornost. They are just kids who play the Norsecore sound and claim to be black metal but none of them are Satanist! They play without meaning and pretend to be evil with their ‘evil’ biographies and their ‘evil’ make-up! Their members are all happy, loving individuals and just play to be someone in the scene, to be cool and to get girls! That is what has become of black metal! BLACK METAL IS NEVER MEANT TO BE FOR EVERYONE! It is time for the true maniacs to cleanse their own territory of trendies and posers that are poisoning the black metal scene by exposing them!!! XII) You also claim that all BM stuff that was released after 1996 is just shit. What do you reproach to all bands appearing after that year? When and where do you set the golden age of Black Metal ? And by the way, what is your current playlist if you don’t listen to “modern” bands ? That statement is again for the Philippine scene. You got your questions from a local interview that I did. What I meant was that all black metal bands in the Philippines that started from 1996 are all shit since they are just copying the fucking Norwegian sound ! The golden age would have to be from when Venom’s ‘Welcome to Hell’ was released up to the death of Euronymous! All black metal albums released in that era are all fucking killer and have their own sound! Take for example: Samael -Worship Him, Blasphemy - Fallen Angel of Doom, Beherit – Dawn of Satan’s Millennium, Mayhem – Deathcrush, Darkthrone – A Blaze in the Northern Sky, Rotting Christ – Thy Mighty Contract. There was just simply no trend where you can fucking hear 2 bands that sound the same! Nowadays, all you can hear are copycats of copycats. Since you misunderstood me, I do listen to modern bands. Bands that have identity and those that continue the anti-trend! Some of the bands that I listen to right now are Sadomator, Bestial Raids, Necroholocaust, Necros Christos, Portal and a lot more. XIII) Still about the early years… You guy were in touch with Euronymous at that time. You had written correspondence and you say that “if Euronymous hadn’t been murdered, then we would be a part of DSP”. What do you recall about your relations with him and his label? How do you consider his influence on the BM scene ? It was a normal correspondence. I distributed his first DSP release “Merciless” in the Philippines and I told him about my band. I sent him our demos and he was interested to release an album from us. No clichés, no fucking evil stories! That’s it ! XIV) What was your reaction about his murder? And what do you think about the BURZUM VS MAYHEM war that followed? What do you feel for Varg ? The news came in late to us as we only relied on mails from allies and fucking hard to get zines. I didn’t even know that he was murdered until after a few months later. The only bands that would ally themselves with Varg are the fucking poser bands that were not recognized by Euronymous when he was still alive. With Euronymous gone, most of the Norwegians went ahead and created a band. Hey, it’s a fucking trend! Plus all the capitalist labels would sign a band if it is from Norway and plays black metal. You have the blashyrk metal that became black metal. Suddenly the Norwegians can sing about anything not related to Satanism and call it black metal. They sang about forest, ice, trolls and anything! Don’t they fucking get it! Black metal is Satanism! XV) At that time, you were also running a fanzine ! Man, I’m a huge fanatic of old school fanzines, please tell me more about it: name, musical orientation, types of articles you had written, and all bands you used to interview… And also if you had to remember one interview, which would it be and why ? The name is Warewolf zine! It’s not misspelled. It’s a shortcut to “beware of this wolf”. It deals only with bands that are Satanic. I interviewed Dissection, Beherit, and Impaled Nazarene when they didn’t have any albums yet. I constantly exposed and bashed the posers in my editorials and put in bits of Satanic articles in there. That interview would have to be with Merciless, they were the first band that answered my interview and they gave me my first inverted cross necklace, all in regular mail! XVI) Can we expect a re-release of some or all of your issues ? If I could get my hands on it then why not, they are all buried by time and dust somewhere in our old house in the Philippines. XVII) Man, if you had to restart your zine now, in 2007… Which bands would you interview ? I would interview the bands that I am listening to right now mentioned on answer# 12. XVIII) Can you give me your own definition of Satanism? What is the essence of Satanism, considering that you regard La Vey worshippers as trendy gay scum ? One has to learn the roots of Satanism to the current practices that exist today. You have to find one that deals with chaos for Satanism’s sole purpose is destruction. The anti-cosmic energy! XIX) On Satanik Eon, there’s a track called Death to Everything. On an importance scale, who or what would you bring death to? Only 5 measures here, eh eh… 1- 5 = Everything! Total Holocaust! XX) What is your opinion about the Asian scene in general? You said that IMPIETY is the perfect example of a bandwagon… Why ? The Asian scene has the sickest black metal in its early years. Take for example the Rator demo and Abhorer’s Rumpus of the Undead, both demos are masters of their own sickness! Asian bands should be following the examples set by these early bands and not to follow what the current trend is. I don’t blame Impiety for changing their style frequently, for it is the only way for them to survive or else they would be like us where we have chosen to be obscure and anti-trend! Early Impiety before the first album kills and I commend them for their work on their latest album which is a comeback to their form! XXI) You guy wear a strange pseudonym: Voltaire 666. Does it deal with the famous French philosopher? What do you know about France? Have you ever visited our country? In 1990, were you touch with French maniacs ? Voltaire is my real name. It does deal with the French Philosopher and I am indeed living up to his name. I know a lot of things about France and I definitely would like to go there sometime. French maniacs from the 90s? I only remember Herve from the then small label Osmose contacting me back then, wanting to buy large quantities of our demo 91. XXII) DEIPHAGO is the symbol of eating the flesh of God… How do you figure out the taste of this holy meat? Sweet? Salted? Tasteless ? As
