Resistacia Underground presents it's third release: 4-way-demo-split of the bands from Hate Corp.(2 songs from each). People who participated in these projects are the main force of the Resistancia Underground label/zine that tries to unite the French Black Metal underground. So, let's see what the ancestors of the Les Legions Noir can offer.
The cd starts from slow intro of Calvaticus(2 first releases of R-UG) but soon it evolves to fast Black Metal, with rare mid-tempo epic riffs. The stuff itself is not bad, it contains catchy moments and good melodies, but the quality of record...(it is true for all the bands, but it especially actual for this one). Why not to make a sound raw but plain? In my opinion it can be only a bungle but not an idea of creators.
The next one is Charogne - fast and with better sound(though not ideal). And it's nice, because the music is really good - riffs with thrash influences and perfectly programmed drum-machine that underlines the most important moments. Also the credit goes for a vocal work - hysterical and caustic it cuts the guitar noise with the insane hatred.
The project Brute begins from simple folk-influenced melody that is accompanied with strange shouts. Than odd, almost dancing drums enter. I can't say that they sound evil but for them this song stands out. This strange track reminds the czech project Stiny Plamenu, but in more grotesque form. The next song is fast and rather standard one. Nothing great but it's not a dull tasteless shit of modern bands. The part of the last project Votum Mortis begins with marching introduction and turns into very dark and somber canvas. Raw, but distinctive sound; fast riffs and slow overdriven fingerings over rumbling drum-machine creates stained and grim atmosphere. The vocal of Sperma Syphilicum is very evil and the clean recitative adds the pomposity of funeral. In my opinion this one is the best of the split with only disadvantage of too loud badly and mixed drum-machine, that doesn't allow sinking fully into the abyss of Votum Mortis.
The overall impression is - interesting work of the new hordes that continue to play underground Black Metal without any modern influences and commercial illusions (40 copies were released). It can't be named a masterpiece, but it's surely an interesting one as a kind of report work.
